New Terrain
As virtual space increasingly becomes a part of our lives, it becomes ever more apparent how little control we have over the virtual. Machines may not recognize you because of the color of your skin; we may have little control over or knowledge of how our data is used; or if you try to go live on social media in a moment of distress it may go dark because of algorithmically-enforced copyright claims.
New Terrain offers virtual environments, moments of meditation, to contemplate our place in virtual space. These are not solutions to our virtual grief, but instead invitations to contemplate virtual context and existence. While the non-VR versions are best viewed on a desktop, if you're able I invite you to return with your phone to look around in AR, or even dust off that Google Cardboard in the back drawer to immerse yourself fully in New Terrain.
